Think “Hotel Restaurants” Even If You’re A Local

You Always Have Something To Enjoy In Beverly HillsInspiration comes from many sources, and in this case it comes from a Yelp email reminding Yelpers to consider hotel restaurants. I admit that I’m guilty of not always remembering hotel eateries, and thinking about it now, some of my favorite places are those very restaurants.
In Beverly Hills, Boulevard in the Beverly Wilshire (or whatever the heck it’s called these days) — whether it’s drinks or a full meal, there’s often live music and the people watching (especially when you are seated outdoors) can be incredibly entertaining.
The Belvedere at the Peninsula Hotel is another favorite spot, offering the most insane smoked salmon pancake you could ever hope to have.  And the people behind the bar are black-belts when it comes to cocktails.
On La Cienega, the SLS offers up The Bazaar, with its amazing tapas, extensive cheese and wine selections, and a truly atmospheric setting that makes this an impressive choice for any dining occasion.
Santa Monica’s Fairmont Miramar hotel has Fig — hip, trendy, sexy… Oh, and they have food there as well.
Staying by the beach, there’s also the Penthouse at the Huntley (though often dismissed as a crazy pick-up scene and a place to meet, ahem, professionals), the atmosphere is hip-etherial and the food is solidly delicious.
My other favorite beach hang is Casa Del Mar. The lobby bar itself stands alone for setting, view and cocktails, and Catch adds comfortable dining, a very good wine list and provides that ocean view.
Thinking it through, the list goes on and on, as different areas of town offer surprising dining options (I’m thinking about the hip hotels that seem to always be opening in Korea-town). That said, when you’re in the know, hotel dining can astound — Bermuda shorts and camera around the neck not required.
