California is home to a tremendous number of neighborhoods that are highly regarded, and the Malibu region features some of the best that the state has to offer. Within Malibu, the Point Dume neighborhood is one that we here at Suzanne Dranow feel deserves extra attention due to the combination of luxury, scenic beauty, and amenities that the location features.
Point Dume itself is a peninsula that features a large sand dune, impressive bluffs, and beautiful beaches. It’s the only large neighborhood located on the beach side of the Pacific Coast Highway, and only about 400 homes are located here. There are no sidewalks or streetlights, and the entire community has a very rural, small-town feel that other areas in Malibu can’t match.
The homes themselves are impressive, and are made up of numerous architectural styles and various sizes as well as different lot acreage. The properties almost all have views of the ocean or mountains, and the majority of them have deeded access to the beach itself. There are numerous occasions where gray whales can be watched off the coast as well, helping elevate the views to something even more impressive.
The beaches here are varied as well. You’ll notice the usual wide sandy beaches of Southern California to more interesting beach areas with tide pools and amazing surfing, and professional surfers regularly end up on the waves here.
The Point Dume area is also focused on being a premier family neighborhood, and features an award winning elementary school as well as its own community center for residents to utilize and enjoy. Simply put, it’s luxurious rural living in Malibu – something that is hard to find.
As for price, properties range from $2.1 million to $40 million depending on size, style, and location of the homes themselves.
Residents agree that the price is easily worth it, and when you take a closer look at everything Point Dume offers to you it’s not hard to see why so many people decide to make it their home.
