Once upon a time in Hollywood, celebrities and the wealthy focused on buying the biggest properties they could. Size mattered, and having huge mansions and sprawling estates was a symbol of success. While size is still important to luxury homebuyers, here at Suzanne Dranow we’ve noticed that in recent years it’s not the primary thing that is looked for.
In fact, it’s actually further down on the list than ever before. Today, there are several other things that those in the luxury home market look for. These things are worth examining a little closer to see just what makes today’s luxury housing market so exciting.
This is the obvious one, and today’s luxury homes are filled with more amenities than ever before. Some of the following features are pretty much standard with homes on the market at the moment:
- Home theater
- Wine cellar
- Spa/hot tub
- Glass doors and walls
- Vaulted ceilings
- Open floor plans
- Cook’s kitchens
- Family rooms
- And more
Obviously, what you look for in a home’s amenities will depend on what interests you most, but there are plenty of options out there and finding the right amenities is a major part of getting the perfect dream home.
Even more important than amenities for most is the ability to relax in a home and know that you’re not going to be bothered. Private locations, long driveways, gated entrances, and other options all help provide that level of privacy, and in today’s paparazzi-filled world it’s worth much more than 10,000 extra square feet of space. In fact, most agree that privacy alone is one of the key amenities to look for in a home.
Design elements matter, especially in a luxury home. Not only does the overall architectural style have an impact on your impression of a property, but the proper use of light, space, and blending interior and exterior elements together should all be used in a way that is greater than the sum of all the various parts. Design is vital for a home if it’s going to be that perfect property for you.
When you consider the three aspects of a home listed above, it becomes clear that size really isn’t the most important part of a home these days. Of course, you want enough space to be comfortable in, but there’s lots more to look at when choosing a luxury home.
