Bel Air

Twelve miles west of downtown Los Angeles, Bel Air luxury homes sit at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. This 6.37 square mile exclusive neighborhood of Los Angeles was founded by former tennis champion, oilman, multimillionaire, and philanthropist Alphonso E. Bell, Senior in 1923. Bell purchased a large ranch, subdivided it, and then developed the property into large estate sized residential lots. Today Bel Air has the lowest population density of any neighborhood in Los Angeles and with barely 7,000 residents includes no multifamily dwellings. Bel Air is bordered by Mulholland Drive to the North, Beverly Canyon Boulevard to the East, Sunset Boulevard to the South, and the 405 Freeway to the West. In addition, Bell built and developed the Bel-Air Beach Club in Santa Monica and the Bel-Air Country Club. In 1931 Bell’s wife Minnewa founded the Bel-Air Garden Club.
